Noise Assessments

Employers are required to assess and control the risk of noise induced hearing loss at work.

Noise induced hearing loss risk factors may include: employees needing to wear hearing protection, raising voices to communicate, noise levels above 85 dB(A) and audiometry results indicating hearing loss.

A detailed noise assessment is required by the regulations every five years if any risk factor is identified. A detailed noise assessment is also required when there has been a major change in the workpace.
